This website, published in association with Newton Stewart Walking Festival Committee, benefits from walks described intimately by members of the team. Annually in May, the team provide the mountain guides for the Newton Stewart WalkFest.
The festival offers a series of 26 walks over seven days with graded routes from moderate to very strenuous. The WalkFest challenge is always popular with true mountain adventurers.

Galloway MRT were deployed on the evening of 25th August to assist an injured walker North of Culsharg Bothy. Two team members were tasked and were able to locate casualty and help them off the hill. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
IT HAS been an exceptionally busy few weeks for the members of Galloway Mountain Rescue team. Over the last five weeks since lockdown restrictions have been relaxed, we have been called upon by Police Scotland to assist in six different incidents.
GMRT was called at 7pm on 18th August to assist a walker, disorientated in poor conditions. Technology helped to locate them quickly. Earlier the same day GMRT was on Standby to assist an injured cyclist but were stood down as Ambulance Service Crew were able to reach and evacuate them.
