Welcome to Galloway Mountain Rescue Team

Galloway MRT provide search and rescue services in Dumfries and Galloway and South Ayrshire. We are a team of highly trained volunteers operating from our base in Newton Stewart. We hold charitable status and rely on public support.

Since we formed in 1975, we have responded to hundreds of incidents accross Southwest Scotland. This website provides an insight into the people and places involved.

Find out about our recent call-outs, training and ongoing fund raising efforts and learn how we ensure we are professionally trained and equipped to deal with a diverse range of incidents.

We are a Scottish Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) - Charity Number SCO20065 and rely upon the generosity of the public, local businesses and other organisations to finance the maintenance of our equipment and support our regular training programme.

Thank you for your interest and we hope you enjoy your visit

Funding

It costs around over £35 000 per year to run the team effectively. Much of this money is spent on equipment which includes maintaining our Rescue Base in Newton Stewart and our fleet of four rescue vehicles.
