Equipment Officer

Introducing Ray McCutcheon

Everything being in it’s rightful storage place, properly maintained and up-to-date, pretty much sums up the important role of our Equipment Officer.  There is little point in us possessing a crucial piece of life saving equipment if it isn’t carried in our vehicles and available when we need it on a remotely located rescue mission!  The Equipment Officer, is responsible for ensuring that all of the equipment, from ropes and technical gear to stretchers and evacuation mats is fully serviceable and properly maintained.  Since we now have three vehicles, each of which is fully equipped with a full range of essential rescue gear, this is by no assessment an easy task.    The Equipment Officer liaises with our overseeing body the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland (known as MRCofS) who provides us with Macinness stretchers and source a wide range of specialist mountain rescue equipment.  He also works closely with our Medical Officer to ensure that our supplies of first aid equipment and drugs, particularly items carried in ‘hasty’ first aid kits, are up-to-date and adequately stocked. Our current officer lives virtually next door to our Rescue Base, which seems to translate into him spending significant periods of  time working in or around the base, cleaning and tidying and generally making sure everything is ship shape. If you’re in the area, he’s not averse to chasing an errant motorist or two who park thoughtlessly on our parking restricted forecourt!
